Dr. Harris joins InovaChrom as Chief Science Officer
Asheville, North Carolina. April 7, 2017. Dr. Guy Harris, a co-founder of InovaChrom has been appointed by the Board of Directors as Chief Scientific Officer of the Company.
Guy Harris, PhD, is an organic chemist with expertise in solving problems at the interface of chemistry and biology.
Dr. Harris has 40 years of experience in natural product chemistry and the application of countercurrent chromatography. Dr. Harris is an expert in all forms of chromatography from analytical to pilot scale, HPLC, including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, solid phase extraction, and countercurrent chromatography; bioassay-guided isolation of natural products; organic compound structure elucidation using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry (MS), ultraviolet (UV), and infrared (IR) spectroscopy.
Dr. Harris has published over 80 papers and holds 17 patents in the field of natural product chemistry.
Dr. Harris has a BS in Botany and PhD in Organic Chemistry from Colorado State University, Fort Collins Colorado. Upon graduation, Dr. Harris was employed by Merck Pharmaceuticals where he worked for 22 years in several positions including group leader of natural product research at Merck Research Labs.
Much of his research has been focused on the discovery of novel mechanism based therapeutic leads through the isolation and structure elucidation of new natural products from fermentation sources. He was also responsible for personal laboratory work which involved the identification and structure elucidation of new natural products using bioassay-guided fractionation, chemical modification of natural products, and the development of new separation methodologies.
He is a founding and current member of the International society of Counter Current Chromatography (ISCC).
