Guy Harris, phd
Dr. Harris has over 35 years of experience in natural products chemistry. He has over 80 publications and 17 patents in natural products chemistry and separation science. He obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry at Colorado State University in the laboratory of Prof. Frank Stermitz. Guy then joined the Natural Products group at Merck Research Labs in Rahway, NJ where he spent 22years leading teams in the discovery of new and novel natural products with therapeutic potential. As chemistry lead for Dynamic Extractions, a UK based manufacturer of R&D scale countercurrent chromatography equipment, he was responsible for method development and worldwide customer technical support. Guy is a founding member of the International Society of Countercurrent Chromatography (ISCCC).
Chairman & CEO. Mr. Birdsall is an attorney with a successful record of starting and building businesses building successful companies in the Hospitality, Technology, Medical Devices and Real Estate sectors.
He was a key member of the team that conceived of and developed the Renaissance International Hotel Chain. He was employee number one of computer ticket sales giant Ticketmaster. He was the founder of Conquest Software of Durango Colorado, a software development firm and service provider of specialized database management systems for both state and county government agencies.
Mr. Birdsall has been designing and building botanical extraction systems that utilize subcritical and/or supercritical CO2 as a solvent since 1998, he is the named inventor on U.S. CO2 extraction patents.
In addition to his background in the technology sector, Mr. Birdsall has founded several successful real estate companies. He was a co-founder and former CEO of Host Funding, Inc., a public real estate investment Company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. He was past Chairman and CEO of Price REIT, a New York Stock Exchange Company he co-founded with retailer Sol Price; and took public in 1991. Under his direction, Price REIT grew from start up to over $2 billion in real estate assets.
Mr. Birdsall also has extensive government service experience having served as legal counsel to Congressman Morris K. Udall and the Interior Committee of the US House of Representatives, legal counsel to the Joint House and Senate Oversight Committee for the Office of Technology Assessment and Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a Juris Doctorate, with post-doctoral studies at Harvard University Law School and a member of the Arizona and Colorado Bar.
Jonathan Snover assumed responsibilities for the Western Office of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in January of 2016. In this position, he will be working with regional stakeholders to expand opportunities for life science collaboration and business growth. Snover will serve as the contact to the Biotechnology Center’s grant and loan programs as well as the many support services available from the central office. He will be coordinating activities between the regional universities, entrepreneurs, industry and the Center to achieve regional goals.
Snover has extensive experience bringing new technologies to market in corporate, small business and start up environments. He started his career in corporate research and development and worked alongside new product development, manufacturing and marketing and sales to complete commercialization projects related to new materials, formulations and process chemistry. In western North Carolina, he has also had positions at WCU, AB Tech and Chief Scientific Officer of Exsol Labs. He completed a BA in Chemistry from Middlebury College, a PhD in Chemistry from Princeton University and a postdoctoral fellowship from North Carolina State University.
